Some of the most attractive summer items that have been catching my eye have one thing in common. Color Blocking. What is color blocking? It is a simple as it sounds. A garment has blocks of at least two bold contrasting colors: blue and gold, purple and teal, green and yellow, just to name a few of the fresh color combinations. The color change can be asymmetric, bold diagonals, straight lines, or in fashion something as simple as what we have pictured here, a combination of bright clothing put together to make bold statement.
Some great patterns on Ravelry that would be easily adaptable to color blocking are the Cap Sleeve Lattice Top and the Cotton Bam Boo Smoked Top. If your not up to making an entire top, I am currently working on a color blocked scarf using some bright half skeins of lace weight on large needles so it is airy and summery. I’m considering that the more of my favorite colors I use the more things I can wear it with. I’m not looking to get into Dr. Who territory here, maybe 3 colors would be sufficient. What three colors would you use on a color blocked item? -Mikki
