Graphic Knits Trunk Show and Book Signing with Author Alexis Winslow

Join us here at L & B Yarn Co. Monday, December 22nd from 6:00pm-8:00pm and meet the designer behind KnitDarling.com and the new knitting book, Graphic Knits.  This will be a fun informative event where not only can you get your book signed by the designer Alexis Winslow, you will be able to check out garments from the book, and mingle with friends.

Alexis Winslow is a knitwear and textile designer living in Brooklyn New York. Her designs have a bold graphic aesthetic and often utilize interesting construction techniques. Alexis is the creative force behind KnitDarling.com and author of the book Graphic Knits (Interweave Press).

Alexis is originally from Norman, Oklahoma. She attended the University of Oklahoma and received her BFA in 2005, focusing on painting and pottery. After moving to New York City in 2007, she studied textile design at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). Alexis now works as a printed textile and product designer, creating children’s bedding and bath products for a large firm in New York City. She established KnitDarling.com in 2010, and cofounded CharitySub.org in 2011. Alexis began self-publishing her independant knitting patterns in 2009, and by 2012 landed her first full length book deal for Graphic Knits (Interweave Press).

Fiber with Friends

Please join us every last Tuesday night of the month for Fiber with Friends. Bring your favorite completed project or work in process for a show and tell and discussion.  This will be a fun time to talk with friends, see cool projects, and get inspired.  Don’t worry, there is no pressure to show off projects if you are just wanting to observe.  Bring whatever you want to knit/crochet on while others discuss.  This get together will start at 5:30pm and end at 7:00pm, we hope you can join us!

Perfect Baby Bib

A cute, practical baby bib that slips over a baby’s head means no strings to tie or buttons or buttonholes.  Come learn how to make this perfect baby shower gift Saturday, September 27th from 10:30am-12:00pm.  The class is $15 and students need to bring 220 yards of worsted weight cotton and size 7 or 8-16″ circular needles.  Materials for the class are not included.

V-eekender Shawl

This versatile piece can be worn one way and it is a shawlette and by turning the point to the front and wrapping around your neck is a great fall look when paired with a pair of jeans and jean jacket.  If you already have taken beginner crochet and are ready to take your crochet to the next level this would be a great project.  The class is $20 and will be held Saturday, September 20th from 10:30am-12:30pm.  Students will need to bring 440 yards of fingering weight yarn and a size f or g crochet hook.  Materials for the class are not included.

F.E.A.T. POP Blanket

In the month of September we are hosting POP Blanket a project in our F.E.A.T. series.  Remember F.E.A.T. is an acronym standing for Fiber, Explanation, and Tea.  We are offering the gathering in the afternoon on Wednesday, September 17th from 1:00pm-2:00pm.  The gathering will focus on the current project and we will discuss the why we chose it, offer an abundance of information on the yarn and fiber, conversation, and of course, tea.  Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that it’s entirely free!  And not only is it free, but you will also enjoy the benefit of receiving a discount on the featured yarn if you choose to purchase it after the meeting. -B & Michael

Needle Punch

Come learn the exciting art of needle punch!  This class will teach you how to create beautiful and stunning pictures out of yarn.  The cost of the class includes the cloth, yarn, and needle.  The class is $50 and will be held Saturday, July 26th from 10:00am-3:00pm.  All materials are included in the class price, I promise you don’t want to miss this class it will be a blast!

Rubbish Bag

Enjoy this new take on our old Rubbish Bag!  This simple lace and garter stitch bag is the perfect accessory to store all of your empty grocery store bags.  With all of the exciting colors, you won’t have to worry about getting bored!  This two part class will teach you how to create a yarn over, k2tog, i-cord, and how to pick up stitches.  The two part class is $25 will be held Saturday, June 12th from 10:30am-12:00pm and Saturday, June 19th from 10:30am-11:30pm.  Students will need 200 yards of worsted weight cotton and size 9-16″ or 32″ needles.
