Can’t wait to see everyone on Friday! Oh, and if you love this shawl please check out our old post by clicking here. -B
We would like to say thank you to the Woolgatherers Knitting Guild of Plymouth Michigan for taking the time to knit for the Moore Tornado Victims. This is what the note said inside the Blessings in a Box, “Hi Leslie, Here are the items our Guild knitted for the Tornado Victims in Moore. Please let them know that we put love in all our stitches. Sincerely, Vicki”
Vicki contacted us within days of the May 20th tornado to let us know they would be sending us a package of knitted items to help with the relief effort. We were happy to send her blessings in a box to the United Methodist Committee on Relief/Volunteers in Mission of Moore Oklahoma who will be delivering the knitted items on November 9th, 2013. Thank you to Amy and Susan for their help in getting these items to the Moore Tornado Victims.
Much Love! -B
Our family of knitted and crocheted toys is growing! We now have an elephant, a lion, a couple of owls and birds, a few dolls, and even a lizard! I’ve even heard rumors that a turtle and a cat may join the ranks here soon as well! We’re on our way to fulfilling our goal of 20 knitted/crocheted toys for Positive Tomorrows, however, we still need a lot of help. For those of you who are unfamiliar with our toy drive, we are trying to donate enough toys so that the entire kindergarten class at Positive Tomorrows, an elementary school for homeless children, will have a toy to greet them on their first day of school.
Last year we were able to donate enough toys that children in both the Kindergarten and 1st grade were able to receive a hand crafted toy to love. This is perhaps my favorite aspect about this drive. It brings a smile to children who really need it. And on top of that, it makes me feel really good to know that I have helped (which, not going to lie, I need in order to get through knitting tiny legs and arms).
And don’t forget, we will be holding a drawing during our monthly Knit Nite on Tuesday, August 6th to see who will receive a $25 L&B Yarn Co. gift card. For each toy you donate, you will receive one entry. Therefore, the more toys you donate, the greater the chance you will have to win free yarn! But we only have a couple weeks left, so pull out your bag of scrap yarn and start knitting! If you’re interested in knitting the nesting bird, owl, doll, or monster, just click on the names and get started : ) -Chet
It’s that time of year again! Many of you will remember the stuffed animal drive we hosted last summer for Positive Tomorrows, the elementary school for children without homes in Oklahoma City. Last year we managed to gather over 40 stuffed animals that later went to the incoming kindergarten and 1st graders thanks to many of our extremely talented customers and employees. By the end of the drive, we had a multitude of stuffed bears, elephants, dolls, monsters, and even a hippo! The drive was so successful that we have decided to host another drive in August. However, we need all of the help we can get!
If you are in need of some inspiration, perhaps we can help. This adorable Alice in Wonderland by Amy Gaines, knit by Leslie, is a fun and easy knit, just click here to take a look at the pattern. My favorite part about this doll is that it is knit flat and later seemed, so you never have to bother with double points or magic looping a few stitches at a time. With this pattern, you will use basic increasing and decreasing, seaming, and multi-color knitting. Also, this is the perfect project to work on this summer.
It’s so small and portable that you can easily place Alice in your purse or yarn bag and carry her to all of your summer destinations. Leslie chose to knit Alice out of Jeannie by Plymouth Yarn Co. because of its affordable price, durability, softness, and easy-care instructions. And at only $4.00 a skein, this cotton/acrylic blend is perfect for any project featuring multiple colors.
The cut off date for donations will be Tuesday, August 6th and just like last year, all participants will be entered into a drawing for a $25 L&B Yarn Co. gift card for each knitted/crocheted item donated. So help us bring some happiness into a child’s life with a handmade toy! -Michael
