Marathon Scarf Project

Several of our wonderful customers have been knitting and crocheting scarves for The Marathon Scarf Project.  As the first anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombings approaches, they are gathering in Remembrance and Hope to honor the memories of those whose lives were taken, recall all brave responders, encourage those still struggling to recover, and give wings to all who will run in 2014.  The project has been organized by members of the Old South Knitters, the church’s group of about 30 knitters, crocheters and weavers. The group is collecting handmade scarves in the colors of royal blue and yellow, the official colors of the Boston Marathon, measuring approximately 4-6 inches wide and 60 inches long. (Organizers suggest using the official Boston Athletic Association colors Pantone 109C and Pantone 294C as a guide.)

Scarves will be accepted until Saturday, April 5 and can be sent either to Old South Church just click here to learn more or L & B will be collecting and sending scarves.  If you would like to send your scarf with our package just bring your scarf by the shop before March 31st 2013.  Each scarf will be presented to a runner at Old South Church’s annual Blessing of the Athletes during two services on Sunday, April 20, the day before the marathon, which also falls on Easter Sunday.

If you would like to send your scarf with our package just bring your scarf by the shop before March 31st 2013.  Each scarf will be presented to a runner at Old South Church’s annual Blessing of the Athletes.  Thank you to Susan for her donating her time and yarn to The Marathon Scarf Project.  -B

Please tell me the brand of yarn and color/dye lot that match the suggested colors of Boston Athletic Association colors Pantone 109C and Pantone 294C.

    Thanks,
    Sheila

We are just suggesting blue and yellow. I don’t think there is an exact color match for the Pantone colors. Just as long as it’s close I’m sure they will be happy to have them :)

Great to see this! I live in New Hampshire, just an hour from Boston and visited the Old South Church knitters. Such a great cause! I finished and delivered an Illusion Ribbon scarf in Royal Blue and Yellow and am knitting more simple pattern scarves. Four members of a knitting group I belong to, “The Cast Offs” had a wonderful time meeting the organizers of the project. VERY SPECIAL WOMEN!

We will do that, I think most of the people who have been participating are sending there projects directly to you, no one has brought scarves directly to L & B Yarn Co.
