Yarn as Art: Flower Wreath

1824 Cotton

I love to change the wreath on my door for all the different seasons and holidays.  It freshens the outside of my home which makes me happy.  Anyone can make this wreath and even though I threw in a couple of knitted flowers you really don’t even need any crochet or knitting skills.  Materials you will need for this project:  natural wreath you can purchase from a hobby shop, yarn, roving or 100% wool, glue gun, pom pom maker, and sissors.  You will start by picking out your color pallete, I used shades of purple, pink, green, yellow and white.  After you have picked your colors you will then start to make the flowers.  You will make flowers by making several pom poms you can either make them solid or multi-colored.  I also made flowers by wrapping the yarn around my hand and then making a tie in the middle which basically makes a loopy pom pom.

The third flower I made by using the same pattern I used from an earlier Yarn as Art post called “Poppies”.  After you have placed and glued the flowers on your wreath you will make the middles for your flowers.  I used green and white roving.  You will cut a small amount of roving and get it wet then in a circular motion make a ball using the palm of your hands.  You are actually felting small balls for the center of each flower.  After you glue the centers to the flowers you are finished and ready to make several more for every holiday season!! -B
