Halo Scarf

When Mom was on one of her shopping sprees she was in a specialty boutique shop and found this dense scarf felted out of an unknown fiber.  After several minutes of detective work, we knew for sure it was made out of a lace weight yarn and we had a hunch it might have been some kind of wool/silk blend so for our version we decided to try Rowan’s Kidsilk Haze, 70% super kid mohair and 30% silk.  She cast on 44 stitches on a size 7 needle and then working in stockinette stitch knitted until she ran out of yarn.  Now it was time to felt.  We were concerned at first to just throw it in the washer like you would with a classic felting yarn so we tried to felt it in the sink in a bowl.  We rubbed and scrubbed, rubbed and scrubbed and nothing was happening so we had no other option but to throw it in the washing machine.  We put the scarf in a garment bag and ended up felting it a couple of times to get it the size we liked.

For shaping, it was Mom on one side and me on the other stretching it out and shaping the ends with our fingers.  It didn’t turn out quite like the one she purchased in the shop, but it was pretty and something different than anything we have knitted in the shop. -B

I love this scarf! So delicate and silky. Definitely a keeper. I would have to love someone a whole to actually give it away!
